Privacy Policy

This Policy is current as of the date above and is under review by our counsel. We will post an updated version here if that review results in changes.

Skipit is built for people who need control over what they see. That only works if you can trust us with the choices you make here, so the short version is: your choices stay private to your account, they are not sold, and you can see, export, or delete what we hold. The rest of this page says the same thing in more detail.

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how SkipItTech, Inc. ("Skipit," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the Skipit website, browser extension, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

Skipit is a browser extension made by SkipItTech, Inc., a company based in the United States. It warns you before distressing scenes on supported streaming platforms, so you can skip the scene or read a short summary as you watch.

SkipItTech, Inc. is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at info@skipit.tech.

2. What information Skipit collects

Information you give us

• Email address: when you join the waitlist or ask to be notified about launch.
• Messages: when you contact us for support or feedback.
• Your account details when you sign in: the email address and name from the account you sign in with.

Information stored on your device

• Extension settings: your chosen trigger categories and preferences are stored locally in your browser and synced through your browser's built-in storage. We do not need a copy of these settings to operate.
• Your settings: which categories you have turned on, how you want Skipit to respond (warn or skip), and preferences like text size or spoken warnings.

Your activity in Skipit

• Your activity in the product: for example which titles you watched with Skipit on, which warnings were shown, which scenes you skipped, and things you send us on purpose, like marking a scene or reporting a problem.

Information collected automatically

• Usage and device data: basic, aggregated analytics about how the website and extension are used (for example, page views, approximate region, browser type), collected to improve the product.
• Log data: standard server logs such as IP address and timestamps, retained for security and troubleshooting.

3. How Skipit handles what you watch

Skipit is designed to be privacy-first. Scene detection is intended to run against scene metadata and timing rather than to record, store, or transmit the video you are watching.

When data collection is on, Skipit records your activity in the product so the service can run and improve: for example which titles you watched with Skipit on, which warnings were shown, and which scenes you skipped. That activity is stored under an account ID rather than your name. You can turn data collection off at any time in Skipit under Account, then Data, and everything still works.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or to build an advertising profile of you.

If any feature requires sending content data to our servers for processing, we will disclose it clearly here before that feature ships.

4. How Skipit uses your information

Your settings exist so Skipit can do its one job: warn you about the things you asked to be warned about.

• To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
• To send you waitlist updates and launch news you requested.
• To respond to your support requests.
• To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.
• To comply with legal obligations.
• If you have left data collection on, to make detection better over time.

5. Categories of recipients

Your trigger choices and your viewing stay private to your account. They are not sold, and we do not share them with third parties today.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the limited categories of recipients below, each of which receives only the data needed for its function and processes it under its own terms as our processor or service provider:

• Form and waitlist providers: Tally collects waitlist sign-ups (your email); see Tally's privacy policy.
• Payment processing: Skipit is free at launch and we do not currently process any payments. If and when paid plans open, Stripe will process the payment and contact details needed to complete your purchase, and we will update this policy before that happens; see Stripe's privacy policy.
• Hosting: Vercel hosts the website; see Vercel's privacy policy.
• Analytics provider: Vercel Web Analytics measures aggregate website usage in a privacy-friendly, cookieless way and does not track you across sites; see Vercel's privacy policy.
• Legal and corporate: authorities or advisors where required by law, and a successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (we will notify you of any such transfer).

6. Infrastructure providers and aggregate insights

Like most products, Skipit runs on infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf to make the service work. They do not get to use your information for their own purposes.

If Skipit ever licenses aggregate, anonymized insights in the future, we will disclose that before doing so, and you will be able to opt out. Any such insight would be aggregate only, released only above a group-size threshold, and an individual's trigger-category profile is never shared. Counting your activity in those statistics is opt-in and off by default.

7. Cookies, local storage, and extension storage

The website uses a small number of cookies or local storage for essential functionality (such as remembering form state) and, if enabled, basic analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

The extension is not a website you browse, so this part is short. Your settings are kept in your browser's extension storage, which your browser may sync across your devices when you have browser sync turned on. Signing in keeps a session with our sign-in provider so you stay signed in. Skipit does not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

8. Legal bases for processing (EEA and UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal information based on: your consent (for marketing emails and any optional analytics); our legitimate interests (to operate, secure, and improve the Service); and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.

9. Data retention

We keep your email for as long as you remain on our waitlist, or until you ask us to remove it, after which we delete it within a reasonable period. Log and analytics data is retained only as long as needed for the purpose collected, typically up to 12 months for logs and in aggregated or de-identified form thereafter.

We keep your settings and activity while you use Skipit, because the product needs them to work. We are still finalizing the details of how long different kinds of data are kept after you stop using Skipit.

When you ask us to delete your data, most of it is removed immediately and the rest within 30 days. Scenes you marked for other viewers are kept but disconnected from you, so the warnings other people rely on keep working.

Two things outlast that window, and we would rather name them than round them off. Operational logs, which hold IP addresses and timestamps, age out on their own schedule of up to 12 months, because they are what we use to investigate security problems and outages. The record of your deletion request itself is kept, because it is our proof that you asked and that we acted.

10. Your choices, controls, and rights

Everything below lives in Skipit under Account, then Data, and works today:

• Opt out of data collection. Skipit stops recording your activity, and everything still works. Nothing is limited.
• Opt out of anonymous insights. This is off by default; nothing is counted unless you turn it on.
• Export my data. Download a copy of what Skipit holds tied to your account.
• Delete my data. Ask us to remove what Skipit holds tied to your account.

Your rights

• Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email info@skipit.tech.
• We will verify your request, respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally 30 to 45 days), and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
• You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it. We are finalizing this section with our attorney.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We treat your trigger choices as the most sensitive thing we hold. We are still finalizing how this section describes our security practices, and we would rather say less here than promise something we have not verified.

13. International transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "Effective date" above. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the product before the change takes effect, not after. The current version always lives at this page.
